Getting My Cat Stoned

I just bought Dragon some CBD oil. We’ll see if it does anything at all, I’d love for him to be less weird and jumpy. He isn’t all the time, but often there is no rhyme or reason for it. He does occasionally like to snuggle, but most of the time doesn’t want to be touched – and skin jumps around if you do. So I’m going to try to get him stoned and see what happens. Hopefully the worse that can happen is nothing, we’ll start slow and work up from there.  This is what we got:

Which is being used by a dog for seizures, apparently effectively, so hopefully it actually does SOMETHING. That Dragon, he’s a troublemaker. Cats are STILL slowly working through their sickness stuff. Dragon’s eyes are ALMOST all better, Fizban still has his eye discharge, and Marvin seems fine, though still occasionally daintily sneezes. Who knows.

I have yet to train the kitten to do anything, which I is something I think would be fun and he would actually be into it. I should at least train a few behaviors so he has exposure to it while he’s young. I think I just need to decide what I want to train, it will be hard in the beginning as he’s VERY persistent about stealing the food right out of your hands. I have to put him away to eat, he doesn’t get discouraged. I was thinking platform training, target stick, wave, things like that. I need to feel inspired, I think. Very much enjoying just having Marvin in the household, I think, not feeling the need for anything more.

Middle of February, it’s definitely Spring in Oregon – and such a lovely mild winter we’ve had. Trees are starting the bloom, and daffodils, everything is turning emerald green – god I love Spring. Hiking has been glorious and perfect, especially compared to last year when everything was just a muddy sloppy mess. In fact, we’ve had so little rain recently the dogs got to go swimming in the river this week, it was low enough the current was safe to swim – crazy! The temperature is perfect for me and the dogs, and everything is so beautiful and quiet – no bugs or humidity. This is when I love Oregon the most, it makes me enormously happy to live here. That said, it looks like we’re supposed to be getting cold and possibly snow this week. It happens.

I have been very much missing my old dogs lately. Especially when hiking, remembering all the good times with my original crew. Missing them all, that was the hardest thing in the divorce, leaving them behind. It was the right choice for them, but it’s something I’ve never felt at peace with. I do love the facebook memory feature, so MANY good memories through the years. Though it’s kind of funny, Poco looks so old in ALL of them. She was a really old dog for a REALLY long time. London never looked old, 12 was nothing – 18/19 years is old. I now have the expectation that my dogs will live to their high teens, and it seems so shocking to lose a dog at such as young age as London was.

Having my three border collies continues to be very easy. I am very aware that I have three relatively young, active, healthy dogs – and I don’t take that for granted. After taking care of geriatric dogs for so long, it still feels weird to be out and about with three dogs that can just anything and everything so easily. Someday they too will get old, but right now is just about perfect.

We do miss having Aja around, but certainly doesn’t make me want a puppy of my own. I enjoyed the temporary puppy, and while I would have liked to have some additional time for her, I’m really happy she’s with David, they’re adorable together. Aja does have that trait from London that she just makes herself at home wherever she goes though, it’s an interesting trait to see that a dog really doesn’t need you! But she’s happy to see me, but now that she’s in one of puppy classes with David, she has no problems focusing totally on him.

If Aja is bred in the future, I would consider a puppy from her. She has a wonderful mix of Bright and London traits combined with a sassiness I find very fun and charming. We’ll see what she’s like as she gets older, but I think she’s just going to be a party. Maybe not the best cuddler though!

Hopefully I am going to get to PLAY with a lot of puppies this year, there are multiple dogs that I know that are supposed to be having puppies – I’m so looking forward to it! Off the top of my head, Briard, Belgian Shepherd, Windsprite, Border Collie – hm, I feel like I’m forgetting some. Puppies are fun though.

I’m not doing a very good job of working with my dogs at the moment. I know why too, most everything I’m supposed to be working on is a retrain. I LOVE training new stuff, I hate fixing old stuff.  Bright is supposed to be working on her contacts, focusing on classic AKC challenges and conditioning. Navarre is supposed to working on coming to hand, collection, turns out of tunnels, and heeling. Haku is supposed to be working on correct flank commands and stopping immediately on his ‘stand’ cue. Maybe now that I’ve written it down I’ll feel more into it.
